Experts explain that if you find yourself
in a dangerous
situation with a dog,
there
are some things you should know.
If you feel a dog is going to attack, keep your hands down,
face
the dog, don't move
around too much, and don't make noise.
Experts also say that if a dog snaps at you, you should use a leash,
belt
or handbag
to offer up for protection instead of your hand or arm.
If the situation does develop into an attack, the experts say
that the worst thing that
you can do while
the dog is biting is to move around.
If you're still, the dog might
relax and stop biting.
They also say, "Don't try to pull that arm away,
because the more pressure you put
on it
the more that dog is going to clamp down."
Also, if you see
someone being attacked, you want to
try anything you can to get
the dog off the person.
But before you do, make sure you're protected.
There's
a
good chance the dog will stop
biting the first victim and bite you.
If you want to pet
a strange dog, they say that the best way
is to have the dog's owner bring the
dog to you.
If the dog is by itself, you'll want to come up
by its side and show it the front of you
knuckles.
You don't want to come at it from above where it can't
see you, and you don't want
to show it the palm of your hand.
Experts recommend that you never
make a dog
feel challenged.
And remember, last year there were over 4.5 million dog bites in
the U.S.
